Security at the White House -Lauren Kuehmeier, Period 2

In the past two days there have been two security breaches at the White House. One man by the name of Omar Gonzalez jumped over the north fence and ran until he was stopped by secret service. He was only carrying a small knife, but things could have gone downhill very quickly had the weapon he was yielding been more dangerous. According to secret service, "he was concerned that the atmosphere was collapsing and needed to get the information to the President of the United States so that he could get the word out to the people". President Obama wasn't even in the White House, and Gonzalez not being aware of his ware a bouts makes him significantly less of a threat. It is also possible that Gonzalez is suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which is why he is acting on that delusion. The second incident was because of a man named Kevin Carr who is drove up to a security barrier Saturday and trying to walk to and enter the White House. He was then arrested and charged with unlawful entry.

It's very scary when the people who are supposed to protect our leader are letting people just run past them. More training and communication needs to take place between the secret service so that these breaches won't happen so often. Luckily, nothing malicious actually went on.

  1. Hopefully this is a wake up call that something needs to be done to tighten security.
