Serena Cervantes, like many other college graduates,
struggles to pay her college debt. So she works many small jobs, one including
a dating website called SeekingArrangement.com. This website was created by
Brandon Wade, a MIT graduate who met his wife, 27, on the site. This site
connects wealthy men with women who need financial support. On the woman’s
profile they will list their age, a personal description, a picture and how
much they charge for dates. The men can either pay them by giving an allowance
or by giving them fancy gifts or expensive trips. The average monthly allowance
that the sugar daddies (wealthy men) pay their dates is around $3,000. Many ask
if this is prostitution in another form. The users state that it is not,
because there is no expectation to engage in sexual conduct. The users have admitted
to sometimes being intimate, but they claim that it’s not why they pay. However,
not all dates have a happy ending. In the case of Alice Tichleman, a sugar
baby, hers ended in murder or so they believe.
This article was written by Stephanie Goldbreg from CNN. The
author’s point of view leaned towards disapproval of the website. You could
tell because she would emphasize certain points that gave the sugar
babies/sugar daddies an unpleasant image. I view this site as an easier and
legal way to prostitution. I do understand the sugar babies reasoning, but I
believe that they are degrading themselves and other women through this site.
this is definitely prostitution, i mean i know some people struggle to get money for college...but this is not the way to earn it. They should consider getting a job and saving money, instead of being force to go to dates with strange men. Sharon Cordon 4th period
