For the first time in history, America has exhausted its supply of EB-5 immigrant investor visas due to the overwhelming number of Chinese applicants. These special EB-5 investor visas supply a green card to the applicant if they are willing to invest at least $500,000 and create at least 10 jobs in America. The maximum number of visas that could be issued is 10,000 and Bernard Wolfsdorf, the founder of immigration law firm Wolfsdorf Rosenthal, said there are at least 10,300 as of August 28, 2013 pending applications. In 2013, the Chinese made up at least 80% of the people issued these special EB-5 visas. There have been a lot of critics about the whole EB-5 visa process as a whole, claiming that this is a way to let people in the top of the socioeconomic ladder into the country easily while we are ignoring the millions of other applicants and illegals coming or forcing their way into the country. This is definitely an intersting concept in many areas, once again hitting the ever so hot topic of immigration. Should the United States make more room for applicants of the EB-5 visas so they can help our economy and ignore the poor family, or should we stick to a "one-size fits all" type mentality? The article itself is pretty objective but the writer leaves this up to the reader to decide.
