In January of 2010 a horrific event happened at Sparkman
Middle School. A fourteen year old girl who was in the school’s special needs
program was set up as bait by the teacher’s aide to catch one of the school’s
predators. The boy (16 years old) had been accused of past sexual offences, but
was never arrested (or even sent to the principal’s office) because he hadn’t
been caught and there was no evidence. The girl was told by the teacher’s aide
to meet up with the boy in the bathroom where he would try and rape her, so
than the teachers could come in just in time to stop the rape before it
happened and catch the boy. Sadly, there was a miscommunication and the boy and
girl ended up in a different bathroom without the knowledge of the aide/teachers.
The girl tried to fight him off but ultimately was anally raped by the boy. The
girl was moved away from Huntsville after this traumatizing event where she now
receives extreme counseling. There was little information given about the boy,
assuming for public privacy. However the principal and vice principal, who were
aware of this plan, still hold their jobs at Sparkman Middle School. The aide
was asked to leave shortly after this event, and did so peacefully.
This article was written on September 21, 2014 by Victor
Blackwell from CNN. His point of view was clear that he did not approve of the boy’s
actions or the administrative faculty from Sparkman Middle Schools actions on
this young girl’s unfortunate event. I personally don’t understand why the boy
still attended the school in the first place. If there were previous complaints
of sexual offences committed by this young boy you would think that someone
would have looked into the case or taken it more seriously instead of
dismissing his actions completely and allowing it to happen again.

Wow this is so sad. Yeah you would think teachers or administrators would take better care of these things because parents trust these teachers at the school when they drop off their child and when that safety is not there, then things get complicated and sticky.

Wow why would they even use a special needs kid for bait. That is horrible. I would have definitely sued the school because no kid deserves to be bait.
ReplyDeleteWho would ever think it's a good idea to ask someone, let a lone a special needs student, to be bait? I wonder how the aid feels...knowing that they have possibly ruined someone's life.

I don't think it's right to use anyone, let alone a special needs student, as a "bait" for something as serious as this. It's really sad that the teachers couldn't see the harm in their decision.
ReplyDeletethis is terrible, they shouldve never used her or ANYONE as bait knowing already the actions of the boy... AND IF they must've used her help to catch this guy they should've been more careful and attentive to this girl. I think that in this case the fault belongs to the school Sharon Cordon 4th period
