Jacksonville Shooting- Adriana Chavez-

https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/26/us/jacksonville-madden-shooting/index.html

Summary:

Sunday, August 26th a mass shooting occurred at a competitive video game tournament in Jacksonville, Florida. The gunman was a 24 year old gamer named David Katz who attended the tournament and opened fire in the facility. Katz had shot and killed two people and injured eleven others before taking his own life.  This is the second major mass shooting to occur in Florida this year, taking place six months after the Parkland High School shooting. Many gun reform movements had immediately occured throughout the nation after the shooting back in February. However, many civilians are left with the thought of not enough was done to promote their safety.

Analysis:

This article was written by Eric Levenson, AnneClaire Stapleton, and Darran Simon on August 27th, 2018, which gives us all the information released up to date. This article is intended to let anyone viewing know about the Jacksonville shooting that occurred on Sunday. Before I read this article, I only knew that a shooting had taken place in Florida and two people were killed. However, I know more about the shooting as the article supplied a lot of information and went more into detail about what happened during the event. One can connect this article to another mass shooting that happened this year, or to the many gun reform movements that sparked after the Parkland shooting in February. Due to the similarity between this event and the shooting at Stoneman Douglas, one can predict that more gun reform movements will take place this year.

  1. I do agree with your conclusion especially knowing what’s going on with the government right know. I also do hope that the safety in communities improves to be more prepared and aware when an event like this occurs. - Yesenia Ramirez

  2. I agree with both you and Perla, and I also believe that no matter how much effort we put into protests and walk-outs, there's only so much we can do if Congress continues to subtly sweep gun-related issues under the rug. Unless something changes, we will have to cowardly wait in fear until the next gun-related tragedy occurs.

  3. I agree with you 100%. It's really heartbreaking to read about this. As much as we do walk outs and protest about gun issues, nothing will be done. It keeps getting worse and worse. We all live with the fear of being our last day to live and this is the major reason . -Alma Alvarado-Cabrera.
