Scientists Have Discovered A Planet They Thought Was Impossible- Sarah Klein 4th period

Based on knowledge of how solar systems are formed, scientists thought that a gigantic rocky planet could not possibly exist. YET they just found one that IS 17 times the mass of Earth. They call it the Mega-Earth. The new planet may have "profound implications for the possibility of life" on extra-solar planets, according to scientists.

Mega-Earths were previously thought to be impossible since a planet that large would attract hydrogen gas, forming a gaseous planet like Jupiter.

Mega-Earth, also known as Kepler-10c, is 18,000 miles in diameter and 2.3 times as large as Earth. It appears to be as solid as our Earth.

I can't say whether I think this is possible, but I do think that space and the objects within it are so vast that it is difficult to comprehend.
