26 Teenage Girls Found Dead at Sea

On Sunday, the bodies of 26 teenage girls were recovered in the Mediterranean Sea. The 26 were found dead, along with survivors clinging to the remains of their vessel. Authorities are now launching investigations to determine whether the girls were sexually abused or tortured. The girls were believed to be migrants from Nigeria and Niger, traveling the dangerous path from Libya to the European shores. It is unclear whether the girls were victims of human trafficking or if they were seeking new opportunities in Europe, or escaping a war torn country. Many migrants have attempted to travel this treacherous journey to the European shores, whether escaping a dangerous country or seeking new economic or social opportunities.
This article was updated around 7:08 pm this evening and is written by Kara Fox and Livia Borghese of CNN. It informs of the treachery that immigrants must go through to reach a prosperous environment. It’s heartbreaking to see what they have to endure just to even begin a life that could be prosperous. It’s sad to know that they could die if they stay where they are, but they could also die on their voyage to a better world. This article also talks about human trafficking, which is so scary. These people risk everything to reach a land promising a new life.

  1. I think it is important to acknowledge that the group consisted of entirely of girls. Of course, there's no proof or reason as to why they were found where they were, but it still comes of as sketchy because of their gender. This has been a problem for as long as anyone remembers and it's starting to get annoying.

  2. Hopefully the girls gain justice from what they experienced, no one should die in such a way, especially if sexual assault or torture was involved.
