Actress charged with battery assault- Melanie Escalante

Naya Rivera and her husband, Ryan Dorsey, were walking their child down a West Virginia street when he recorded her hitting him on the head and lip. The complaint was made and Naya Rivera was taken down to the Kanawha County Magistrate Court where she was released on bond. For domestic battery assault, the consequences are $500 or a maximum of  12 months in prison.

Typically complaints made involve the man being the abuser but in this case it is the woman. Of course this isn’t completely rare. Other cases happen and have happened, one of them being Emma Roberts beating up Evan Peters back in 2013.

Analysis: I think people often wrongly assume that domestic assault only happens when the woman is the victim which is completely false. People need to open their eyes and realize that the blame can never be put on a specific gender because anyone can be innocent and anyone can be guilty. More attention needs to be brought to situations like this because they tend to get swept under the rug. I think it’s even worse because she assaulted him in front of their child which is never good. Children shouldn’t be put in the middle and in possible danger. I also feel like we don’t know the whole story because he only got her on video but something could’ve easily triggered her actions as self defense prior to that. I can’t firmly hold a position but I do know that it could’ve easily been justified just as much as it could’ve been unfair and wrong. http://www.cnn.com/2017/11/26/entertainment/naya-rivera-arrested/index.html

  1. Domestic violence is when violence or abuse occurs from someone living in someone else's household. This goes from anything between father to daughter or wife to husband. Just because it isn't a scenario where the woman is the victim does not mean its a scenario that doesn't matter.

  2. domestic violence can occur either way. Seeing all of the celebrity sexual assault accusations, this is a reminder that men can be abused too. Of course like you said, more motive needs to be revealed.
