Two months ago Hurricane Maria crashed along the coasts of Puerto Rico. Since then, the people of the island have been struggling to find food, water, and shelter. As we near the Holidays, the citizens are only reminded of their loss. While mainlanders and those unaffected will be celebrating and eating until they are stuffed, the Islanders will not be doing the same. Their traditions and celebrations involve food and transportation that is not accessible to them at this moment. There will be no holiday for them this winter.
I think this is the absolute worse. I have written a couple of my previous posts about how these people are struggling with the aftermath of the hurricane, but this one just tops my list. The “happiest time of the year” will always be sad for them now because they will have to remember all that they’ve lost. Like I said in my previous posts, we need to do something as a country to help. Many of us are so blessed and have so much that we could offer to make their holidays even a little bit brighter.
I agree it's sad that they can't celebrate one of the most beautiful holidays, it brings people together... Sometimes we just need to contribute to make things like this happen.
ReplyDeleteIt's horrible to hear that the suffering of these innocent people will continue even through the holidays.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad to think children and families are having to suffer through hard times, versus celebrating the holidays.
