Volcano in Indonesia - Lauren Rothert
On Saturday, thick ash began to shoot out of Mount Agung. Since then, authorities have issued the highest-level warning possible after these volcanic eruptions from Mount Agung on the Indonesian resort island of Bali forced the nearest airport to close, leaving many people stranded. More than 29,000 people were forced to evacuate from their homes, and around 59,000 were stuck with no way out due to the closed airport. On Monday, this volcano was rated a level 4, indicating another eruption. Unfortunately, on top of the volcano, the citizens of this area also have to worry about rain. The regular rain around the area of Mount Agung will cause an increase in potential lava floods, and volcanic mud flows are starting to become present.Even though the eruptions started only two days ago (Saturday around 5:30pm) more than 1,700 people have already been reported dead.
It seems like the natural disasters are never ending. I don't know how we have experienced so many detrimental natural disasters in such a short amount of time. I hope the citizens surrounding the area of impact were able to evacuate safely, and I hope the airport opens fully to help those in danger. I also hope we are able to provide any help needed to those who have already been affected, and everyone who is to come as well.

When natural disasters like volcanoes and hurricanes occur in third world countries such as Indonesia, I think the US should help and assist the citizens affected. Another contributor to natural disasters in the modern day is global warming, which is rapidly rising temperatures and causing climate change/ natural disaster.
ReplyDeleteIt's so sad to hear about the struggles they are facing. I just hope that they are able to ban together as a community in order to help each other out.
ReplyDeleteThese signs that you have described need to be taken very seriously, I hope that the citizens have understood the dangers and evacuated.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the hope that the citizens surrounding the area of impact were able to evacuate safely, and that we are able to provide any help needed to those who have already been affected, and everyone who is to come as well.
