As I'm sure many of you have already seen, Donald Trump's latest edition in the saga of his interesting tweets came early Saturday morning, when he fired back at North Korean president Kim Jong-Un after he called Trump an "old lunatic" by calling him "short and fat." Trump then lamented the lack of friendly efforts on the North Korean side, which is very questionable considering the fact that he has been insulting the North Korean president almost as long as he has been in office. Experts disagree on the impact this latest war of words will have on American-Korean relations. Some say that the pressure and engagement on the American side will improve relations while others say that it will only provoke North Korea and potentially cause a nuclear war.
It is difficult for me to relate this to another situation in American history, especially in politics, because this level of unprofessionalism has not really been seen before. However, there is still a very important lesson to learn from this, and that is that we all must do our best to conduct ourselves in a mature manner even when the going gets rough. Recently, Virginia's first openly transgender senator, Danica Roem, denied the opportunity to say some harsh words about her former opponent, who called himself Virginia's "Chief Homophobe," because she is an adult who understands that her actions have consequences and that she should step up and be the bigger person. I think that many of us can and should live by her example.

It is troubling to see both of these international leaders giving each other insults that only amount to a preschool level. I am inspired by what Danica Roem is doing with her situation and I would hope that our world leaders would start to exhibit these behaviors.
ReplyDeleteStill cannot believe how immature our president is...
ReplyDeleteAlthough I agree that Trump's use of twitter is very unprofessional, North Korea has not made friendly advances towards the U.S. at all. In fact, America has stood up for the international good by warning North Korea, but Kim Jong Un continues to behave erratically and has provoked Trump's rhetoric of a "fury the likes of which has never been seen."
