In June 2015 retired general Micheal Flynn took a trip to Egypt and Israel, funded by a company he was advising at the time. It was in the interest of placing nuclear plants, more than two dozen of them, in the region, with Russian interests to boot. This flew under the radar for quite a while however his advising of President Trump and ties to some of his other advisors could be used as pressure against the president over further discussions on ties with Russia.
To further the issue, Flynn also hesitated and then refused to disclose much information about his ties to the effort, which of course raises suspicion. This led to the federal law getting involved, as Democrats (not exclusively however in the majority) state that he has broken federal law by not mentioning the trip in his 2016 SCRA (security clearance renewal application)
Overall, this could be another torch to throw at the president’s bonfire of “shortcomings” and while it could be harmless, if it was why wouldn’t Flynn admit to it? This is certainly something to learn from, as the lack of coverage on an event as large as nuclear plants overseen by the US in foreign countries is definitely something that we should try to alter, so that at least a base of knowledge is documented about these trips in the future. Missteps like this aren’t going to move us forward in pressing times and they’re certainly not helping us come together as a people.
