On Sunday, 26 teenage female bodies were found in the Mediterranean Sea. These girls were between 14-18 and were believed to be migrants from Niger and Nigeria. Autopsies will be taken on Tuesday to investigate wether they were tortured or sexually abused. On Monday, Italian police arrested two men, an Egyptian and a Libyan accused with human smuggling. However, they are believed not to be connected with the 26 female bodies. Since the beginning of this year, 2,839 migrants have died on the path and in the Mediterranean Sea.
I think this is so sad that women and children are dying on these voyages to hopefully a better life. I feel like we as a country should help out the migrants. These migrants are no better and no less than we are. If people can not see that then we are not the America that we need to be. We need to help these people in need because they are the future and those 26 young ladies had a family and they had dreams and aspirations. Those 26 bodies were bright young kids just like we are.

ReplyDeleteThis is awful. I agree with you, it would be very nice if the US could help immigrants find better lives, even if they're not Americans. But that seems like it'll be an unrealistic hope for quite a while.
ReplyDeleteThis is so horrible. It is proof that conditions in these countries are so bad, people are willing to risk their lives just to leave. I believe, knowing this information, the United States should step in to help in some way (though our president may not agree with that).
