Joseph Schreiber, 32, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for setting fire to a mosque attended by Pulse Nightclub shooter Omar Mateen. Fortunately, no one was in the mosque at the time the fire was set, and the culprit was caught on surveillance cameras on the video. Schreiber was identified and arrested two days later, and pleaded guilty this Monday in court. Rahman, a mosque attendee, explained to CNN that the mosque is very conscious about peace, love and unity, stating that this country (America) gave them everything.
The author of the article was unbiased and clearly laid out the facts. I find the connection to hateful acts like this to the current Muslim ban and the ignorance and hatred in this country scary and altogether unwanted. I think that the anger and sheer ignorance surrounding islamophobia and the "America first" attitude has led to hateful and terrible acts just like this one. Even though there were no lives lost in this particular incident, the potential for even greater violence and destruction grows. Our country has a lot of healing to do.

Although it may sound cruel, I am excited that they are not watering down the punishment for acts like these.
