The bodies of 74 migrants have been recovered by the Libyan Red Crescent after washing up on the country's northern coast near the city of Zawiya. These men were all african trying to reach the European boarder.Volunteers are continuing to collect bodies as they wash ashore and prepare them for transfer to a local hospital. Some working in the region don't believe then boat sank due to navigational issues; however, they say smugglers operating along the sea route employed dangerous methods to get more refugees onto the water.
I did not know about this prior to reading the article. it shocks me to my core to see people so desperate to leave a country. We all know that majority of the times the people leave are due to circumstances in government. I hate to see these people trying to find a new life, only to be killed in doing so.

Everyday, people are dying at our front door. When we refuse to let them in, it is blood on our hands.
ReplyDeleteIt hurts a little to know that these people are only trying to make better lives for themselves, and to provide for their children, and end up being killed in their struggle.
ReplyDeleteIt's upsetting to hear this and to know that once Americans needed a way out and others helped us, but now we refuse to help others.
