‘We’re not in Iraq to seize anybody’s oil’: Pentagon chief arrives in Iraq with a message of cooperation

Joshua Klein

This article is about the defense secretary making his first trip to Iraq to determine what is needed to accelerate the campaign against ISIL. He rejected the thought of defeating ISIL by taking away oil from them. However Trump had repeatedly talked about how that would be the way that they were to defeat ISIL. Secretary Mattis says that he anticipates to get a better sense of the situation by staying.

From this article it seems that there is a bit of confusion within the presidential cabinet, in that Donald Trump has contradicted his own cabinet member. It seems as though this has been a trend in his administration, and this not the first time something like this has happened. Even during his campaign he had some conflicting thoughts with his campaign manager.
