September of 2016, Dr. Larry Nassar was charged of three first-degree sexual conduct of people younger than the age of thirteen years old. US Olympic gymnast Jamie Dantzscher came forward recently with her story of how Dr. Nassar sexually abused her during her appointments for injuries such as back pain and a twisted ankle. He manipulated her by saying that his actions were a necessary part of the healing process. Afterward, two other former US gymnasts came forward with similar claims and soon after, over sixty girls confessed sexually abuse during medical treatments; most of the girls were under eighteen when the abuse started. When searching his house, police found thousands of child pornography as well as a video of him molesting underage girls. Nassar is currently in jail without bail in Michigan.
It is appalling how long abuse like this can go on undetected with the amount of girls who were affected. This brings attention to the need for a safe environment for young girls to feel comfortable coming forward with this information and getting help. The situation also reflects how money and medals are put first when it comes to the safety of the athletes competing. I hope this brings awareness to the need for a closer eye kept on the adults handling the competitors who become vulnerable to those older than them.

These are the people we need to be incarcerating, not the non violent drug offenders. Sadly its these people who most often get away...
