In announcing the winner of best picture last night at the 2017 oscars, Faye Dunaway and Warren Beaty read the wrong recipient, La La Land. When reading Beaty began to introduce the winner but created suspense when he paused and looked at both Dunaway and inside the envelope. Assuming that Beaty was purposely trying to difficult for comedic purposes, Dunaway snatched the card and announced La La Land as the winner. As many people began to say their speeches, they were soon interrupted by a man from the backstage crew who informed them that there had been a mistake. Maturely enough, producers Jordan Horowitz and Marc Platt announced that moonlight was instead the winner of the prestigious award.
analysis:
A mistake of this sort has never happened at the academy awards before so it came as a shock at all. The author is not biased by any means and is simply explaining the actions of the oscars without bashing them or La La Land. The main idea of the article is to explain the incident that happened at the awards, while the significance is showing that one of the most prestigious groups has made a mistake that is not common. This mistake can be synthesized to yellow-journalism when false information is publicized.

I remembered how shocked I was to see these events take place. Although it got some hopes up and took some attention away it was a accidental mistake.
ReplyDeleteThis is just a theory but a feel like maybe sometimes they do stuff like this for the publicity but I could be completely wrong.
ReplyDeleteTo add to what Mikenzie said, sometimes I think that too, but I do not think this is the case because I read that their ratings dropped because of the error.
