Six women. Three nursing homes. And the man accused of rape and abuse.: Regan Saldana

Summary:

In small town in North Caroline near the smoke mountains is a extensive case of a man who has been accused of several counts of rape and abuse. Luis Gomez was a man who moved to the small town and worked as nurse and aide at three different nursing and assisted living homes. In October of 2016, a woman who lived in one of those three nursing homes came forward to police to report and alleged rape. This woman claimed her attacker as 40 year old Luis Gomez and police did not believe her. After she was sent to the local psych-ward of the city's local hospital, the woman relocated in fear that her alleged attacker would come for her again. After police had long dismissed her case, a woman living in one of the other two nursing homes that Gomez worked at came forward and accused hi of rape. Within the next few months, six women would come forward to tell their stories of the abuse and rape that Luis Gomez had done to them. In the midst of these months, two of the three nursing homes Gomez was employed at knew about the ending rape and abuse charges against him and continued to keep him employed at their homes. While these charges were ending against him, his current but separated wife came forward to CNN investigators while they were researching Gomez's case. She described him as very friendly man who had issues with anger. She later came to police accusing Luis Gomez of assault and filed a police case against him.

The authors are writers and CNN case investigators who have dealt with many cases and uncovered many unknown facts on forgotten cases to bring them into the public eye. This article was written overtime of the changes in the case but was published recently in 2017. This is effective to the article's purpose because it show the progression and development of the case and how it was resolved. I myself had no prior knowledge of this type of abuse or this case in general. This creates a surprising effect on my part of the the of abuse and crimes that go unnoticed by the public eye in places where you wouldn't expect these kind of crimes to take place. The audience for this article are people in general to raise overall awareness of the case described in the article but also specific people who live in or have family members that live in nursing homes. The main idea of this article was the crimes that Luis Gomez inflicted upon the elderly as well as people that were close to him. The significance of this article is the light this brings on unknown issues and crimes that elderly people under nursing care experience and how society needs to become more aware of these problems.
