In recent months adding a work requirement for medicaid eligibility has been reviewed especially in the state of Arkansas. Any able bodied adult under medicaid would be required to work, perform community service, or receive job training 20 hours a week. This would cause many unemployed people to lose health insurance. The Republican party is the main supporter of this addition to medicaid eligibility. The article gives personal examples of adults on welfare.
This article was written by Abby Goodnough from the New York Times. The goal of welfare is to encourage participants to
eventually become self- dependent however due to limited transportation and resources a work requirement
may prevent people from getting the welfare they need. An attitude towards welfare is that people recieving
it are lazy but there are many reasons such as health issues that people remain unemployed. When citizens
are in bad health it is harder for them to find a job. If work was required to qualify for health care it could
seriously hurt many adults in the nation. Without welfare for the unemployed poverty rates would go up and
it would be nearly impossible for them to recieve food or health care. Resources for people to find
jobs should be available but work should not be required. This situation is similar to specific job
requirements during the time of the New Deal that prevented unemployed from receiving welfare.

I really agree with your point of view on this blog, and I like the way you put it. People need to realize the helpfulness of welfare for the unemployed.
