A new scientific study shows that bumble bees may be far more innovative in their ability to learn and formulate new behaviors for their survival. In the study scientists observed 10 bumble bees mimicking the behavior presented by a female. This behavior was shown to be more beneficial in the the situation the scientists had developed for the bees. This ability to observe others and be adaptive can be translated into the wild, where mimicking the skill sets of successful bees could mean life or death.
This scientific discovery shows us a deeper understanding of the intelligence of other animals, which we often overlook. This can be synthesized to the false perception of the colonists that the native american peoples were less than human, or on another lower level of intelligence, and thereby worth. We should endeavor to understand what we do not know, rather than classify it as somehow benath us, because we cannot comprehend.
