Summary: In 2010, when Cuba expanded their private enterprise, Marta Castaeda and her husband were granted a private business license. With it, they opened a pizzeria. They called it "A Mi Manera" which means "My Way" because you can order a pizza however you like. They ran the business out of their apartment, about four stories up, and noticed that they would get tired having to constantly run pizzas down to the sidewalk for pickup. After much consideration, they came up with a way to lower the pizzas down in a basket from the balcony. Years later Marta's husband died, so her best friend (also called Marta) took over as her partner. The two run the business wonderfully and the flying pizzas have become known all around.
Analysis: I think flying the pizzas is a really cleaver way of solving their problem. This shows that you can truly run a successful business out of anywhere. I always love hearing stories about people finding creative ways to solve problems. This could be compared to Henry Ford's invention of the assembly line which was another creative way to solve a problem in a business.
