Kennedy Waterman - Betsy DeVos Is Briefly Blocked From Entering a School

Betsy DeVos was recently confirmed as the new education secretary. On Friday the 10th, she tried to enter Jefferson Middle School Academy in Washington. She was blocked by a group of protesters who held signs and heckled her. She eventually made it into the school, although activists say they will be protesting her at any possible opportunity they can. Many people are concerned because she has little experience in public education.

This article was posted the Friday that it happened, so it is very recent. The author offers a very unbiased view on DeVos, which lets the reader better experience the story. Before reading the article, I knew she had been confirmed and that many people were unhappy about it. The article was written to keep people up to date with government officials. This kind of thing is very important because it's good for people to be aware of what's going on with the people in charge. This article can be related to the muckrakers. Their job as journalists was to expose scandal to the general public. Although the author of this article doesn't give a bias of scandal, she is bringing the issue into the open, much like the muckrakers.
