Grace Schwall- Court Refuses to Reinstate Travel Ban

This Thursday three federal judges ruled against the legality of Trump's travel ban. Ordered by Trump in previous weeks the travel ban stopped all flights from Iraq, Iran,  Libya,  Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. The court ruled that the ban was not lawful because there is no evidence of these countries threatening the United States. With the initial passing of the ban the visas of many immigrants was cancelled. The lift of the ban has allowed for thousands to reunite with their families.

This article was written by Adam Liptak from the New York Times. The ban shows Donald Trump's prejudice towards predominately Islamic nations. These nations are not a current threat to the United States and therefore a ban is unconstitutional. Temporarily the ban has stopped however a final decision has yet to be made by the Supreme Court. This is an example of how checks and balances work in our government. The executive branch is checked by the judicial branch so that it does not get too much power. This situation can be synthesized to when the Espionage and Sedition Acts violated the Constitution during WW1.
