Starting just a few weeks ago, the flu started to spread around. People can catch the flu any time of the year, but the centers for disease control says America's epidemic seasonal flu typically starts in the fall and can go all the way until May. The virus is now spreading rapidly in 40 states and health officials say it's more widespread in states this year. The CDC is encouraging Americans to get a flu shot if they have not already, it is the best defense against the virus, even though it is not guaranteed to work. People may complain that you can get the flu from the flu shot, but Dr. Sanjay Gupta says it is a dead virus and can't actually cause the flu.
This was published on February 6th, 2016, which is today, showing that this sickness is going around right now. Prior to reading this article, I had heard that the flu was going around because a lot of people at school are getting sick. I agree that everybody should get the vaccine in order to prevent themselves from getting it, even though it isn't fool proof. 1918-1919 known as the "Flu Pandemic" was the deadliest in modern history, affected 500 million people worldwide, about 1/3 of the planet's population at the time, and killed 675,000 people, and at this time there were really no vaccines to help prevent this sickness and no medicines to help get rid of it.
