Ava Noble: Biggest Storm of Winter Coming to California

Blog: Due February 20, 2017

Summary:
On Friday and Saturday, gusting winds, heavy rain, and mountain snow will create the "biggest storm of winter" in southern California. The National Weather Service is expecting rockslides, cancelled flights, mudslides, power outages, and many floods. In the Los Angeles and San Diego area, over 20 million people are under a flash flood watch. This could possibly make history, being the strongest storm in Los Angeles in the past six years. It also might be one of its rainiest days on Friday. If the rain reaches 4.1 inches, it will make the top 10 rainiest days list, which has been recorded since 1877. As of now, they are assuming it will be 3-6 inches of rain, but in the mountainous areas, it will be about 6-12 inches. They are taking precautions to make sure everyone can stay as safe as possible.

Analysis:
Both of my brothers go to college in southern California, and my mom is currently there visiting them. This definitely worries me that my mom's flight is not going to make it back on time. Prior to reading this article, I had heard about the storm that they're preparing for from my brothers and some of their friends. Everyone is assuming they will be safe, so I hope that is the case. Although this is not even close to the severity Hurricane Katrina was, I can synthesize this to Hurricane Katrina because they were both storms. After this hurricane, they learned more and more about how to prepare for a bad storm, so I believe Hurricane Katrina could have made an impact on the preparation for this southern California storm. I am hoping everyone stays as safe as possible, and I hope the storm blows over soon!

  1. I like your synthesis and hope that this storm will not cause as much damage.
