Mackenzie Bessner- Pilot spots sharks from above the surface waters

Cape Cod National Seashore is filled with gorgeous beaches but it is also home to many great white sharks. Lots of seals are around the beaches and where seals go, sharks go. On a recent day, there was a young man surfing by himself. He was waiting for a big wave to come while he was about 50 yards away from the shore. Little did he know that two great white sharks were swimming only 25 yards away. Wayne Davis spotted the two sharks from his airplane a few hundred feet above the surfer. Wayne Davis is a fishing spotter pilot who thankfully spotted the great white sharks. He called over to the radio to tell them what was happening. Later, a boat came to rescue the young surfer and pulled him out of the water. Throughout the day, Davis kept patrolling the beach above. He spotted roughly 30 sharks that day.

I think that this article was very fascinating and enjoyable to read. It is crazy how a person being at the exact place and time can actually save a person's life. I do not think that this article should frighten the audience. Shark attacks on humans are very rare. There are more deaths caused by cows and horses than sharks. Cynthia Wigren, founder of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, quoted, "Our mission is to learn as much as we can about the great white sharks to help sustain the population, while simultaneously learning as much as we can about them to help people make informed choices when they decide to venture into the water."

  2. Wow this is so great how this man from above saved this mans life because from under the water people on surf boards look like a tasty seal to a shark.

  3. It's crazy that the pilot was right over those sharks to begin with and then to spot them in the water is even crazier. I'm so happy he was able to rescue the surfer near the area of danger.

  4. Good thing this guy was saved because he was definitely helpful in preventing further attacks that others might not have been aware of.
