America's prison systems have been under fire for years. With mistreatment and dehumanizations just a few of the complaints many have with our infirmary moral infrastructure, it's not surprising that something like slavery has popped up. In many states prisoners receive little to no money from any work they do. It's a brutal cycle too as workers labor long hours. This kind of treatment goes beyond correctional, it's downright dehumanizing. Since the 13th amendment says that work without pay can be used for correctional purposes, this is a completely legal practice. This has caused many prisoners to rebel by refusing to work. A massive strike will surely bring recognizability to this situation.
For the longest while the government can be above the law as they are the law. They can find loopholes around any barrier they want to because they create those spaces specifically to abuse them. It's a broken system that needs reform. The afore mentioned prisoners are not all there for capital punishment. Some do minor things that still carry a stigma and a long sentence. You might suggest someone goes in and changes things based on what the people want but thats what a rebellion is and rebellions never change anything for the better. That's not how politics works. Each previous position of power has to please the people under him and the only reason someone new would come and take their place is because all those under them want the insurgency to happen. Politics is a complicated mess that causes lots of injustices like the second coming of slavery. If you haven't watched the newest video by CGP Grey called rules for rulers you're missing out.
