When 62-year-old Swede Maria Grette started communicating with a 58-year-old Danish man via a dating website, she had no clue what she was getting herself into. Little did she know that her Danish sweetheart from online, was really a 24-year-old internet scammer from Nigeria. Three months into their online conversations, Maria had grown quite fond of him, and began to trust him. So, being the trusting and kind woman she is, when her sweetheart informs her that he'd been taken to the hospital in Nigeria, and needed money, she naturally sent him some. However, when he kept asking her for more money, she realized that it was a scam. She stopped communicating with him, and moved on. Three weeks after she had pulled the plug on their relationship, the scammer broke the silence by calling Maria. He told her how awful he felt about scamming her, and how he was a devil who tricked a lovely woman. She forgave him, and their new-found friendship continued on for years. Maria supported him through university in America, where he now lives and works. Maria and her friend "Johnny", still communicate to this day, updating each other on their lives.
This is a touching idea, that after being so deceitful, and tricking someone out of their money, a person can see the error of his ways, and seek forgiveness. Even more amazing, is that Maria was able to forgive him, and even help him with his future. The fact that such a beautiful friendship can bloom from such an unfortunate situation brings hope to my heart.

Wow what an interesting and weird story, kinda touching actually, even though he was a scammer.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that the man realized his mistakes and owned up to them. Hopefully this can be a lesson to many people with similar situations.
