Kobe Williams (1st Period) - Vets Told to Repay Millions

A couple of years ago, the military looked to reenlist many army veterans for the Iraq and Afghanistan war at the time. In order to encourage the veterans to reenlist, the Pentagon offered them hefty of bonuses (around $15,000). Of course, many soldiers accepted this offer back then. But recently, it seems that the military is demanding that the thousands of veterans have to pay the money back. This was demanded because it was brought to light that many of these veterans were not even eligible for the bonuses they were given. At this moment, everyone's hands are tied in this situation and people are not sure how it will be handled.

I understand the military's reasoning for wanting the money back. But I still believe it was their mistake for not checking if the veterans were eligible for the bonuses or not at the time. Also I believe these veterans should've been given some sort of sympathy with this. It seems like it would definitely be complicated to find a way to pay back all the money at such a sudden moment. But, like many other who have read about this story, I am worried/curious as to how this situation will be solved.
