Clown threats spreading across the country- Leah Lara

Recently, multiple Texas high schools have gotten threats from alleged clowns on social media. These threats are aimed at both specific students, schools. These "clowns" threaten to shoot teachers, kidnap students, among other things. Police investigating the incidents assure that there is no evidence to conclude that the threats are credible, but parents are still keeping their children at home.  "It's not cool to be scared to come to school because you're scared that a clown is going to come to your school and shoot you while you're there," said the older sister of a student that was threatened. AISD police stated: "Threats of any kind against our school, students and staff will be investigated immediately and are not tolerated. We encourage our community to report threatening behavior of any kind so police may investigate and we can work together to keep our campus safe."

In this day and age, we know that school shooting threats are not to be taken lightly. In the past few years, we have seen multiple school shootings, even at elementary schools. But because these threats are not only contained to one state, or one specific area, along with the fact that these threats are on social media, I believe that that are apart of a poorly judged practical joke. Criminals planning to attack schools dressed as clowns across state lines, while promoting it on social media is very unlikely. If these claims were legitimate they would be acted upon, or at least unique and the first of it's kind.  But even so, these threats should be taken seriously, and those responsible should be held accountable.

  1. I can't see why anyone would want to dress up as a clown and go around scaring people. I heard that many schools were being threatend by these clowns and I think that it defiantly needs to stop.

  2. I completely agree that those at fault should be accountable, not only for the threats but the distress they have caused teachers, students, and parents alike. I, myself, am not completely aware of all of the threats occurring on social media though plan to make myself aware and familiar so that I can keep up to date on the repercussions of these events.
