Zoe Norton-Rodriguez--9th--Thanksgiving Turkey Prices Impacted By Bird Flu

A Bird flu outbreak wiped out millions of turkeys this year. Minnesota, the state the article was about, experienced many of these deaths. This caused an increase in prices for the cost of thanksgiving turkey. People are still going to buy it, according to a survey but they may look towards frozen turkey to save a little extra money.

Luckily America does lots of imports and grows many types of crops so the lack of turkey would just effect a holiday tradition rather than cause a big impact. This is similar to how the Irish relied on potatoes as their only crop and suffered when the potato famine wiped away their crops and food source. This is why farms should produce a variety of produce, rather than mono crops so if a bug gets around, it won't destroy their entire business.

  1. It is true that it is important to have a variety of crops because you never know might happen to one of them. This occurred in the recent Blue Bell incident.
