Transgender Equality Task Force - Kate Fehan 8th Period

Last Tuesday, activists gathered in Washington D.C. to announce the creation of a Transgender Equality Task Force. The group will focus on many problems affecting transgender people in America including violence, unemployment, and homelessness. This task force is the first of its kind and will be able to bring more representation into Congress and shed a light on many overlooked issues faced by transgender youth.

In 1865, the Freedmen's Bureau was established by the government to assist recently freed slaves. This was the first government organization specifically made to help minorities in the US. It set up an education system and reunited many families, despite being shut down by Andrew Johnson shortly after its creation. Hopefully the Transgender Equality Task Force will be longer lasting and even more effective than the government groups before it.

  1. This is a little off task but I really can't stand people who try to block what is right. Andrew Jackson was a horrible person in my opinion and I hope that we can change the $20 bill to a woman who is more deserving of the honor of us remembering them by looking at their faces on our nation's currency. Back to the article, I am glad the government is taking initiative in creating something like this. This is part of what the government was created for. Creating equal opportunity for people to thrive.
