Summary: Xiuhtezcatl Tonatiuh at six years old became a climate change activist when he saw an environmental documentary. Now fifteen, he is one of twenty one young activists joining climate scientist James Hansen in suing the Obama administration for failing to stop the usage of fossil fuels. President Barack Obama gave one of the most anticipated speeches of the summit where he acknowledges the U.S. stake in the problem and vows to take measure to combat the damaging effects. Obama also was expected to join billionaire Bill Gates in announcing an international group of investors and governments to fund development of clean-energy technologies, but Tonatiuh also knows it's not enough to meet the world's goal of limiting warming to two degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels. In order to do that, we'd need to ditch fossil fuels completely.
Analysis: I think Obama is handling this very well. From reading the article, the lawsuit was created to bring to the issue of climate change to the top of the government's priorities. Part of the job of protecting the citizens of the U.S. is to protect their well being and focusing on climate change is one of the most prevalent issues today that need to addressed and taken care of to accomplish this. If there was a cleaner ways to do things, I would hope the government would see to it that the measures to enact theses ways would be important enough to make happen.
