"Trump: 'I want surveillance of certain mosques'" -Leah Messinger(period 1)

In Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday November, 21, people rallied against and in favor of Presidential candidate, Donald Trump's, statement that he "wants surveillance of certain mosques".
He suggested that law enforcement watch out for certain Islamic worship houses that might pose a threat to the country. Nearly all of the attendees were punching and fighting each other and one even shouted "all live matter" amongst the chaos. This controversial event ended in no arrests or need for medical attention however a campaign spokesperson did tell CNN that "the campaign does not condone this behavior."
The reason that this rally on Saturday got so much attention is because of how invasive and racist Trump's threats seemed. The fact that he associates all muslims with terrorism is racist and immature. However, on the other hand, people are probably just happy with the fact that Trump is actually trying to do something about this sudden and tragic outbreak of terrorist attacks. This relates to how people acted towards Muslims after 9/11 just because that was the demographic people associated the attacks with even though all muslims are not terrorists. Not only do these events have an effect on us by the loss of lives, but they also makes us more cautious and therefore more prone to assuming that all Muslims are dangerous just because we are hypersensitive in times like these. In conclusion, Trump was very bold in his statement because it is wrong to invade the privacy of those Muslims that are more than likely innocent people however we need to come up with a workable solution to this problem.

  2. The thing is that it's mostly just sad for me to see history repeat itself. I just feel that we should've learned by now you know?
