Refugees Moved to Connecticut Amaya Avila 8TH PD.

In 2011 a Syrian family escaping the terror of the war were recently rejected from the state of Indiana and relocated to Connecticut with open arms. After months of waiting they had been so happy to start over in America, but later discovered that the impression of the Paris Bombings had affected the placement in Indiana, where the decision of keeping out Syrian refugees had been made. Indiana government had decided that Syrians created a threat to their state. The state of Connecticut had gladly gathered the family for hopes of establishing a new life.
I think this situation is just plain sad. It is the racial labeling that has affected America's acceptance in the past 14 years. Events such as 9/11 and paris Bombing has shaped opinions of Muslims and pretty much any Middle Eastern race. The rejection of this family contradicts the early establishment of America and creates a hatred feeling towards this country who rejects innocent families looking for peace and happiness.

  1. I agree, but as sad as the first half of the story is, the second half is just as (if not more) encouraging. It's true that in our our everyday lives we make assumptions about people based on past experiences with that "type". It happens on the first day of school, it happens on the train, and as we see here it happens on a government/affecting-people's-futures level. But the love and open arms of Connecticut sure showed them wrong. I say we should all have a little more of Connecticut in our lives.
