California Officer Shot Dead // Olivia Gillis P3

Three people were arrested in connection to the shooting death of a Los Angeles-area police officer who was sitting in his car behind the station. One is a 16-year-old boy who was charged as an adult and is facing one count of murder. He is currently being held in Los Angeles County jail with a 1 million dollar bail. The other suspects who were also arrested are a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old man. The officer had just returned to headquarters after a training session around 11 pm and was sitting in a parking lot near the station when two men approached him. Some of the suspects have admitted to attempting robbery previously to shooting the officer, whom they probably didn't know was an officer as he wasn't in uniform. Another officer heard gunfire and chased the car to a nearby community where the 3 suspects bailed out.
Although the author of this article makes it seem as though the 3 suspects wouldn't have shot the officer if they knew he was one, I don't think that's the case. Police shootings have been happening much more frequently lately and although they probably would've been a bit more careful if the man was in uniform and in a police car, I don't think it would've ultimately changed the outcome of the situation. This story overall is very tragic and unfortunate that we lost someone so dedicated to keeping the community safe (he also served as a marine and spent years in Afghanistan and Iraq). Hopefully police can get to the bottom of this case so that justice will be served.
