President Obama rejected on Friday the Keystone XL oil pipeline proposal which served as a victory for environmentalists across the U.S. " 'The pipeline would not make a meaningful long-term contribution to our economy,' Obama told a press conference. He said it would not reduce gasoline prices, and shipping 'dirtier' crude from Canada would not increase US energy security." Obama declining the proposal will make it more difficult for producers to develop the providence of Alberta's oil sands, something good for the environment. In addition, it will promote the U.S. in a good light as advocates of combatting climate change leading into the global climate talks that start on November 30. The United States sits as the world's leader in combatting global warming and Obama's decision to reject the oil pipeline is "nothing short of historic," and will hopefully serve as a catalyst for other nations to start making more political decisions in favor of the environment.
While the construction of an oil pipeline running from Canada, through the U.S., all the way to the Mexico could have been beneficial to a range of people for a variety of reasons, Obama's decision to reject the Keystone proposal was admiral. While the corruption of our planet and environment may not affect us in our lifetime, it will have an impact in other people's lives in the future, and it's a noble thing for President Obama to have compassion and consideration for our environment when in today's society, most people only take into account the effect certain actions will have on themselves.
