Jaylon Mobley, Period 5 // 'Saturday Night Live' opens with tribute to France's terrorism victims

Summary: Last night, Saturday Night Live cast member, Cecily Strong, opens the usually comedic show with moving words for France to express America's love and understanding by stating: "We stand with you"... "Paris is The City of Light, and here in New York city, we know that light will never go out" ... "Our love and support is with everyone there tonight. we stand with you." Promptly after, the show proceeds with it's traditional lively nature.

Analysis: This is what I like to see. America actually showing some sort of presence of morality and sympathy, or I should say, empathy. Granted this was the work of some writer backstage who was probably ordered to include something about the tragedy, but I think I speak for us all when I say that the words expressed are nothing short of what all of America is thinking and feeling toward the citizens of Paris, France. We are no stranger to terror, but we are not used to it, no one is. It's a strange, strange, world, foreign to all of our experience and exposure. And it's dark. So in the dark moments, for us all, it's nice to know that someone, anyone, is with you, in mind and prayer. I'm proud to say I am an American in this moment, in this moment of love and comfort. That's what's it's all about. Seriously. Along the way, I feel that all humans have been demoralized, either by greed, by wealth, or by pride. Maybe all three. So I love to see an improvement in the minds and hearts of us all. Embracing what's naturally present, love.

  1. i completely agree that its good for america to publicly broadcast the fact that we are supporting Paris as much as we can. there is only so much we as normal citizens can do but its good that we all know we are feeling empathy together.

  2. Nicholas Godfrey Period 8:
It's great to see all of the support that has been going on for France. As Americans, we know that terrorist attacks are devastating and its definitely heart warming to see all the support that France has from us going all the way across the Atlantic. I hope that we can keep this sense of unity across the world going even long after this horrible event.

  3. It's very heartwarming to see TV shows like that give tribute to such a horrific event. And it's not just SNL, everywhere from social media sights to the traditional but meaningful flag-at-half-mast, America and the world are showing their support. In the worst possible way it is almost unifying. At this point in time the world has a common enemy and a common friend.
