St. Paul University Hospital

The St. Paul University Hospital was imploded at 8 AM this morning.  The building fell to the ground in less than 30 seconds.  UT Southwestern bought this building 15 years ago, and there seems to be no longer use for it anymore.  Although it has been renovated several times through the years, it is not meeting the needs of the medical community today. The William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital is going to take over.  Patients who had been served by St. Paul University Hospital will now be cared at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital.
The St. Paul University Hospital started in a cottage on Hall street all the way back in 1896.  In the mid to late 1800 when hospitals where being build in Dallas, they were always affiliated with a religious organization.  St. Paul University Hospital's patients were primarily Catholics.   Other examples are Baylor University Medical Center was founded by the first Baptist Church downtown and The Methodist Hospital in Oak Cliff was founded by the Methodist Church.  Our hospitals that were founded when Dallas was a young city have all faced the same challenges of meeting the current needs of the medical community like UT Southwestern University Hospital.

  2. This is so upsetting! To think that a building that was established so long ago could just come crashing down is so scary!
