Lincoln Anthony (8th period)- "Debating the debates: Do they even matter?"

As the 2015 season for the presidential race draws to a close, we look back on what has happened the past year, and then of course we quickly avert our gaze over the truly roller coaster ride of a year when it comes to the presidential race, but as the election looms over the horizon, many people are wondering, "Do the debates even matter". According to one Sabrina Schaeffer, they do.

I feel like the presidential debates have greatly dwindled in both the quality of the candidates and the quality of the arguments that they propose, but they have also risen in the absolutely absurd humor found in so many of the candidates. It seems like in the olden golden days it was truly a battle between two titans of politics as in the famous Lincoln-Douglas Debates from which so many timeless quotes are created. These days it seems like everyone is just trying to outdo each other in the really damn stupid department. On the Republican side we have a bunch of white dudes being really offensive to Mexicans and then of course Donald Trump shows up and out does them all. And on the side of the Democrats we have Bernie "feel the bern" Sanders being an old, socialist man and Hillary Clinton who doesn't have a solid stance on any of the issues that anybody puts forward. Well, after that magnificently huge tangent I conclude with the simple statement that, no, the debates do not help anybody choose their candidate of choice. At least not me anyway.
