Layla Maynard: How Is Body Shaming Still A Thing!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: Teen actress Ariel Winter, best known for her role in the hit t v sho w "Modern Family", recently posted a picture on social media that has somehow created a huge problem. Apparently, multiple horrifying comments were left on Winter's picture posted with her baby nieces, where she is seen in a swimsuit.

Analysis: I think that not only is it incredible that our society still has to face these types of ridiculous situations that shame women for their bodies, but some people pretend this issue doesn't exist. Like Winter went on to say after receiving awful comments including the fact she was "asking for it," it's time that women are treated equally, like men, and free from judgement about their bodies. Especially women as young as Winter, who is only 17. The alarming number of negative comments made in regards to Winters post shows the severity of this topic, and proves we as a society need to change our standards.

  1. I really wish this change could stop now but we can only protest in a hope for a better future. (Alejandra Hernandez 6th period)

  2. The amount of body shame present these days is really quite ridiculous. I'm glad that people are starting to try and prevent it from occurring but there are still stubborn and inconsiderate people who want to continue being rude.

We all make it seem like we are becoming more accepting and that things are getting better, but they arent! There is still just as much body shaming going on now! We really need to learn to get over the preconcieved notion of what "beauty" is and even just stop talking about it.

  5. If we fight body-shaming with overwhelming confidence about ourselves and others, some day it will catch on.
