Kenley Turner 3rd period- Husband of 9/11 hero sends back award over caitlyn jenner

Summer- When the planes crashed into the World Trade Center, Molra Smith, a police officer, was running in and out of the Twin Towers, trying to get as many people as she could out of the building. She saved many lives, but sadly she died. On her behalf, woman of the year award was given to her husband. Her husband was then outraged when the same award was given to Caitlyn Jenner. He didn't think that what Caitlyn did was at the same caliber as what his wife did, so he sent the award back.

Analysis: I can honestly understand why this man was insulted. Molra actually risked her life to save people, and she's dead now. Caitlyn is also very brave, but didn't really save anyone's life, or put herself at risk, and I don't really think what Caitlyn did is the same caliber. Caitlyn Jenner probably helps other trans sexual people come to terms with their sexuality, which is something to applaud, but someone who put their life directly on the line needs to win that award, in order to keep up the integrity of woman of the year. That same year, a nurse at Baylor hospital had to come face to face with ebola, and had to go in there and try to help a man get better, who she didn't even know, with a deadly virus. And then she ended up contracting the disease! Why didn't she get the award? What are the standards for woman of the year? Obviously, bravery is a factor, but to what extent?

  1. Of course celebrities doing what she did took courage, but heroic on the same level as somebody who died saving the lives of others... It's debatable to say Jenner did that even on a metaphorical level. Transphobia's terrible, but what Jenner did is in no way even comparable to Smith's actions.
