ISIS Threatens NYC// Arianna Sotero 1st period

Summary: The entire world is aware of the attack that ISIS made on Paris, France. Almost all of the 7 gunmen had been identified and killed and another terriorist group was shut down. But, just recently, ISIS released a video which features an anoymous man and splitting images of Times Square and Harold Square. The man is taping what looks like an explosive device to himself and hides it inside his jacket. The video returns to the footage of a normal day in New York but then shows the man about to press the trigger on the explosive device, then the screen goes black. This was made to threaten and suggest that they are out to attack the New Yorkers. The New York mayor, Bill de Blasio, said that this video is no credible threat to the city and the police will continue to stay alert and protect the city against terrorism.

Analysis: I do believe it was brave for the mayor to announce that the video didn't threaten New York. But, this may also be dangerous because ISIS might try and surprise the city since they seemed unaffected by their threat. No one was expecting the attack ISIS had made on Paris, which is one reason why it was so terrifying. But now,  the entire world is on high alert so it may be easier to prevent another attack. This isn't the first time New York has been a target of terrorism. Back in 2001,  the Twin Towers of New York were attacked by a plane that was hijacked by a terrorist group. Even almost 15 years later, America has not fully economically, physically, or mentally recovered. New York, and the entire world, learned from the 9/11 attack and knowing what a terrible incident it was and how many lives were lost, New Yorkers and NYPD can do everything in their power to prevent anything like that from happening again; in the U.S., and worldwide.

  1. I agree with you that it was a pretty risky move to announce that they are just going to move on with their lives but at the same time it could have been the smartest move to make because ISIS probably wanted them to freak out.

  2. I agree. This is a very dangerous situation and we should be on high alert 24/7.
