This article is about a protest in Minneapolis. The protest was over police shooting of a black man. 43 adults and 8 juveniles were part of the group that blocked off a major highway for almost 3 hours. Little detail of the shooting was released, but some witnesses say that he was already handcuffed when he was shot. There has been many high-profile shootings of black people that have resulted in nationwide protests against extreme force on African Americans. Many of the protestors are being arrested for their actions, specifically in the event discussed in this articles.
This is similar to arrests following slavery protests during the abolitionism age. Abolitionists fought for slavery to not exsist anymore, and some for slaves to receive emancipation. These protestors were often arrested for their efforts to destroy an institution that was considered the core of the southern economy to southern plantation owners. Protestors sometimes consisted of black slaves, which only increased the level of revolt against the protests.
