Professor Reza Aslan ,while being interviewed on CNN, was asked a question: "Does Islam promote violence?" His response was that Islam does not promote violence or peace because Islam is just a religion. And every religion depends on what you bring to it. If you bring peace you will produce peace just the same if you bring violence there will be violence. Reza says, "People are violent or peaceful and that depends on their politics, their social world, the way that they see their communities, and the way they see themselves."
I think that with all of the very recent attacks by ISIS all over the world (Paris most recently) it is so easy to point fingers. People are angry and grieving their loved ones who were taken from them and they want someone to blame. And ISIS has claimed the attacks so of course they are the target. But what people fail to remember is that these crazy terrorist are only a small percentage of the Muslims in the Islamic religion. Just like Americans are generalized as the people with the perfect lifestyle a.k.a the American Dream, all of these Muslims are branded with the mark "killer". We would do right to remember that if this was our religion (depending on if you are religious or not) and some looney decided to go on a killing spree-we would not want to be affiliated with them what so ever. Generalizing a religion is ignorant and unjust, and like Reza said- it just depends on the person and his/her mindset.
