The article that I read this week told the incredible story of Carlos Pettigrew, who after hearing that his home was on fire, rushed home to help his children. Pettigrew was at a parent teacher conference when he received a phone call from his daughter Corbin Pettigrew, telling him that their home in Maryland had caught on fire. Corbin had called from a neighbor's house but the phone had died right before she could tell her father that they were safe and were only unable to get the dog from the house. After hearing the news from this phone call, Carlos rushed to get into his car and drove as quickly as possible to get home to his family. While on the road Carlos lost control of the vehicle causing it to flip upside down . Miraculously Carlos crawled out from the car and managed to run another half-mile to reach his children (and even dog) who were safe! While Carlos Pettigrew is suffering from minor injuries, students and the community have created a GoFundMe page to offset the costs of the damages and to help support him and his family!
Analysis- This article is so amazing! This man's actions are truly remarkable and I am so thankful that he is still alive especially after risking his own life to save his children! The selflessness that he displayed is very inspiring and is an excellent reminder to value every moment you have. I can relate this story back in US history to when Samuel F.B. Morse successfully created the telegraph and Morse code. With the creation of those inventions, communication as we know it has significantly changed and has allowed for a much more efficient transference of ideas and information. Without these inventions and the overall progression of communication, situations like the one in the article would be drastically different as they are very dependent upon telephones today.
