Many Mormons are upset over the church's new policies that stand against same-sex marriage. These new policies are causing many members to disown the church and make sure their names are struck from the church's records. During the weekend, there was a mass resignation in Salt Lake City. Many of these people had not attended church in years, they just felt too close to the church to completely cut it out of their lives. Many people who resigned felt as though being a part of the church supported the decisions it made and its doctrine, which they did not truly believe.
I think it is good that these people realized they no longer wanted to be a part of the church that supported such opposing views from their own. They had to choose between two things that were very important to them which I know must have been difficult. When the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began, the mormons were not accepted in many parts of America, so they traveled around, eventually ending up in Utah, in order to stay safe. This situation is similar, because people are leaving the church due to their personal beliefs, and Mormons were not accepted during the 1800s, so they moved away due to their beliefs.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad people are standing beside their beliefs, despite what their religion is trying to tell them. It really shows their commitment to what is right.
