This article discusses how the Landfill is inputting large amounts of greenhouse gases that are currently polluting our air. Nearly 262 Million tons were dumped in landfills in 2012 but the current number is unknown for 2015. Scientists state that the methane emissions released into the air were undercounted leaving us not fully knowing how polluted our air is currently.
To me this is hard to believe how we can overlook such a prevalent problem that is affecting the air that we breathe. its almost as if we don't comprehend the gravity of this issue because the pollution of the landfill will only continue to increase over time. instead of caring where our trash goes, we simply don't care and are fine with wherever it goes as long as its out of our presence and don't care about the repercussions. landfills are the third largest man-made source of methane in the U.S and its scary how there's very little we can do to stop it. this in a way is similar to when the settlers in the american colonies continued to smoke tobacco that they had planted and worsen the condition in their lungs. they did not fully comprehend what damage they were doing and by the time they realized that it was damaging, it was to late.

ReplyDeleteThis is scary! I try to be environmentally conscious, but the efforts of a few people will do nothing while the majority is not. It's so maddening how people are so careless. And even if they think it won't affect them personally in their lifetime, it'll affect their children! it'll affect the future of the human race!
ReplyDeleteour environment is important and we need to make sure it stays pure.

ReplyDeleteIt is true that the amount of waste Americans go through is way too high. I think most people don't care because it's not affecting them directly at least right now. However when it does come around to them they will, so we need to start limiting our waste and taking action now.
