Tristan Spohn (AKA Spiderman) 3rd Period

After a high school football referee allegedly threw racial slurs at football players, the coach told his players to go hit the referee.

Analysis: It is unfortunate that this event happened. Racial slurs are far from acceptable, but that does not make it okay to assault the referee like they did. The players were suspended for the season, and it is especially unfortunate as they have been labeled as 'thugs' and 'bad kids'. They essentially will be labeled and defined by this event for a very long time to come. However, I know from my personal experience the adrenaline that pumps in your veins when you are out on the football field. Football is a very violent sport, and often the adrenaline overthrows self-control and reasoning. You simply are not taught to think, your taught to react. Combine that with the rage that they had from the alleged racial slurs, and their coach telling them to do something, you have tragedy waiting to happen. This brings up the theme of second-chances. Should the boys be given a second chance for the mistake that they made? America has made some horrendous mistakes in the past, and has had the chance to attempt to make up for them. I can only hope they get a second chance as well, as a person should not be defined by one mistake.
